Synopsis:

A drastic improvement on Lauren Weisberger‘s bestselling novel, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA showcases Meryl Streep’s knack for combining humor and sadness. While likely inspired by notorious VOGUE editor Anna Wintour, Streep’s Miranda Priestly (head of Runway magazine) is entirely her own creation. Sporting silvery hair, a vast collection of fur coats, an encyclopedic knowledge of all things fashionable, and a killer smile, Miranda is full of wicked charm. With her mature beauty and commanding presence, Miranda is as fascinating to watch as she is intimidating to the constant rotation of assistants thrown her way.

When bookish Northwestern grad Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) interviews to become Miranda’s newest lackey, Miranda hires her not for her lackluster wardrobe but for her intellect. Inside the pristine Runway offices, Andy suffers through a never-ending list of impossible tasks, and is the subject of constant harassment by Miranda’s jealous first assistant (Emily Blunt). But to the dismay of her boyfriend (Adrian Grenier) and close friends, Andy slowly finds her seduced by the glamorous world of fashion, and by Miranda herself. While Andy’s transformation comes largely in the form of new designer clothing, the makeover is mental as well. What starts out as a firm belief in fashion’s vapidity and in Miranda’s heartlessness gradually fades into the suspicion that the boss-from-hell might just be hiding a soul. While the book villainized its title character, the film gives new depths to her wrath. As Andy trades her undergrad wardrobe for one packed with Prada and Chanel (with help from Stanley Tucci in a brilliant role), viewers are able to savor the work of costume designer Patricia Field. Together with director David Frankel (who also worked on SEX AND THE CITY), Field creates a world of fashion so wonderfully extreme it would be hard for anyone to resist.

RAMA NI BUN NO ICHI

Synopsis:
Ranma is a regular guy with a not-so-regular problem. See, when he was training in China, he accidentally fell in a cursed spring. As a result, whenever he comes in contact with cold water, he turns into a she. Not to worry, a splash of hot water to turns Ranma back to his male self just as quickly. It doesn't help that Ranma's future marriage has already been arranged by his father... and that several girls and guys are after both boy-type and girl-type Ranma!

Review:
Ranma 1/2 is possibly renowned manga artist Ms. Rumiko Takahashi's most successful work. While Ms. Takahashi's fans may differ in their opinion of what her greatest creation is to date, in terms of financial success I believe it is Ranma 1/2 that will earn enough for her to buy a fleet of Ferraris if she feels the need (for speed).

The transition of Ranma 1/2 from manga to anime is a happy event for us Ranma enthusiasts. I believe the TV animators got it spot on from the first series and never really went astray since. I personally prefer the artwork of the TV series to the more recent OAV series I've seen, since the characters seem to look a little softer and bear a closer resemblance to Rumiko's original design. As for the content, the first Ranma TV series is something of an anime milestone for me, as I actually saw a few episodes of this series prior to getting my mitts on the manga. I have fond memories of the first time I saw an episode of the Ranma TV series, as it was a laugh-a-minute experience for me... and thirty laughs in half an hour is just the thing to prolong one's youth. Certainly it was enough to make a devotee out of me.

In this series, we are introduced to most of the major characters who will remain with us throughout Ranma 1/2's run, not to mention the rest of our lives. Characters who make their debut in this series include the double-gendered Ranma Saotome, his silly dad Genma, the ultra-violent Akane, the deadly Chinese babe Shampoo, the clueless Ryoga and his cute porcine alter-ego P-chan, etc... The list of wacky and wonderful characters just go on and on, but I won't. Suffice to say that Ranma 1/2 is the possibly most fun you can have with your clothes on!

Hanabishi Recca meets a girl named Yanagi who has the power to heal. This power intrigues a dirty business man, Mori Kouran who thirsts for immortality. Meanwhile, Recca finds out that he is descendent of an ancient Ninja clan, Hokage and his half-brother, Kurei, wants him dead. Along with Fuko, a busty tomboy, Domon, a muscular oaf, and Mikagami, a swordsman who wants to avenge his sister's death, Recca enters a competition where they must fight or die with the best elemental weapon users in the world. The last fight will be between Kurei and Recca...if he can stay alive until then.

Flame of Recca takes the basic idea of sibling rivalry and sets it as the stage on which everything develops. What sets it apart from other fighting anime is the intricacy of its plot and the painstaking detail it devotes to the combat sequences, a definite must-watch for fans of fighting anime.
